According to Barks, this story was inspired by the desert near San Jacinto.

This story was originally intended for WDC 145. For WDC 144, Barks submitted a 10-page story with the working title »Golden Apples« on 3 January 1952 which was not published by Western because of its plot. This story is lost; according to Barks, it was a modern version of the myth of Atalanta and the golden apples which contained fierce scenes with a jealous Daisy.

WDC 147 was the first issue in which Western printed the insignia on the first page of the Donald Duck story. To make room for it, the 2nd through 4th tiers of p. 1 were reduced in height.

First appearance of April, May, and June in a Barks story, though still nameless and with somewhat atypical looks (rounded beaks).
